Banksy Has Been To Ukraine, Confirms Murals To The Press

Several artworks dotting the landscape of Ukraine have been confirmed to be original works by Banksy.

In a post last November 12, 2022, on their official Instagram, Banksy confirmed that at least one of the murals that had been appearing around Ukraine is theirs. A few days after this post, Banksy confirmed with The Art Newspaper that in fact seven new murals were official Banksy works, and had been made all around Ukraine.

The first mural which Banksy posted on Instagram depicts a gymnast balancing on some rubble, located in the town of Borodianka, located near the capital Kyiv.

Another shows a man being thrown to the floor by a young boy in a judo match. The man is believed to be Russian president Vladimir Putin himself.

Another mural is that of a rhythmic gymnast performing over a large hole, damaged by an explosion in a residential building in Irpin.

Many Ukrainians and supporters of the country had thanked the artist on social media, claiming that his presence is bringing attention to their plight.

The artist is known for their anonymity, but also for their charitable efforts. Banksy is known for donating much of their proceeds to charity, including raising money for social causes, as well as fighting racism and inequality.
